Here and Now, Folks

There’s an island in my mind

Where I spend all my time

A bed of bamboo surrounded by aloe

A serene scene inspired by my screen

Everything covered in green

Smell of ground coffee bean

Soft swells of a stream

Guess it must’ve been a dream

Woke up in an office park

Living in the dark

Winter too long

Am I weak or am I strong?

I’m no carpenter

Here ain’t no pura vida, baby

More of a silhouette

True love you haven’t met yet

A vision in the dark

The moon up in the midnight sky

How much have I imagined you & I?

Can I let go of the feeling

There’s something eluding me?

A black snake I just can’t

Kill kill kill it before it kills us

With its polluting bite

Lost my appetite

For our slippery vice

Maybe we’re all just too polite

To ask why this life doesn’t feel right

Feel like I’ve been obeying a master

That I just can’t see

Oh fuck it’s all around me

how’s the water, folks

It’s looking a little filmy

They’re choking me

All the lines across this country

Connecting ports-and-towns

While people pour more rounds

So they don’t have to see what surrounds

them. But who’s got time to waste

In a world that moves at this rate?

We're just rushing towards our expiration date

Tell me if the destroyer is destroyed-

What does that create?

I don’t believe in clean slates

I just travel between states

In hopes of finding the right place

Now it seems like a question

That’s staring me right in the face

Can we stop constructing this race

Can we realize our gaze

Can we stop fraying the lace

That connects us to our base

Before we’ve ruined this place?
