Saturday

I'm sitting because today
I lack the stamina to stand
I spent it all yesterday
In the bends and folds
My hamstrings are frayed
and I'm afraid
afraid to take another
step for fear of falling not
because the future is unknown
but because of how strained I’ve become
through all this trying.
standing still.
stretching.
holding.
stretching stretching
holding
breathing
holding
changing

So perhaps
the cause and effect are one
in the same and
here I am sitting
because today I cannot stand
So I will hold
hold
breathe
and my god
I only hope
that tomorrow I will change.

Remind me of the humus of the Earth
Reignite my imagination
in the shade of redwood trees and exchange
glorious orgasms with me on top of their trunks
Be as beautiful to me
as a stream upon mossy rocks
with the trickle, your laughter.
Reveal to me the magic of the cosmos
recall with me the characteristics of the planets:
Jupiter's Red Storm and Saturn's rings of ice
Lay in bed with me with wonder in your eyes
and awe upon your mouth
Rejoice with me in the turning of the sun
Reach with me into the depths of outer space
knowing that the universe will outpace
the fingertips of our inquiry

There is not so much difference between you and I
I can assure you that whatever continent you come from
once fit snuggly against mine
Perhaps our faces are different shapes
Perhaps the patterns of our tongues are yet undeciphered
Just witness with me one moment of nature
a deer drinking from a stream
a newt crawling across the forest floor
the moment our gaze returns
we will behold a closer bond.

Never take it for granted
when someone looks you in the eye.

Take away the measuring sticks of success
and add them to the bonfire upon the sandy shore
when the tide is low and spirits high
Kiss me
whoever you are
for this life is precious
and we share it
against all odds.

Fill your lungs with air, will you?
Ask what it is that drowns you so
May your breath be as free
and easy
as the breeze

What would it look like-
a life where I could really love myself?
When I awoke I wasn't
checking my phone
Just opening my eyes|
feeling alive.
Taking in the color of the sky
recounting my dreams
and giving thanks for another chance to be

Maybe say a little prayer:
Keep my sisters safe
and may my mother recover quickly
and may my father not feel
so alone

Water the plants
Drink some tea
Make my way through the grassy fields
to the streams
just to follow where they lead.
