Strategic Insights:

Supply Analytics

In today’s healthcare system, supply chain officers are tasked with building the most cost-efficient strategy to optimizing their organization’s supply chain without sacrificing patient care, operational efficiency, or growth goals.

Our task was to identify where Vizient could make the supply chain optimization process seamless for healthcare organizations. By bringing together product owners, project managers, and leads from UX, Engineering, and Data Science for a 2 day workshop, I created a strategic alignment on the current state on Supply Analytics as well as future state opportunities to be validated.

Then I planned a research sprint to investigate the workflows of supply chain officers, analysts, and consultants. These findings were synthesized into a narrative used to guide the future strategic direction of Supply Analytics.

What We Were Researching

The purpose of this research was the understand broader workflow that supply chain officers exercise to make key strategy decisions based on data insights. These findings would be used to expand the vision and strategic direction of Supply Analytics, one of Vizient’s core technology platforms, to add more value to clients.

This research supports the broader effort to evolve Supply Analytics from a report generation tool into a workflow-integrated insights platform. Objectives were created during an internal alignment workshop facilitated by Project Discovery with the VP of Engineering, leaders of Supply Analytics, UX, Engineering, and Data Science.

The following objectives were defined:

  1. Strengthen Supply Analytics as a Core Platform

  2. Deliver Actionable Insights Through Opportunity Signaling

  3. Improve Workflow Efficiency

  4. Increase Trust in Surfaced Insights

  5. Support Measurable Savings Outcomes

  6. Improve Cross-tool Experience while Unifying User Experience Across Tools

What I Did

As the lead researcher on the Supply Analytics Rewrite initiative, I was responsible for shaping and executing the end-to-end research program. My contributions included:

  • Facilitated Internal Alignment Workshop
I brought together product owners, project managers, and leads from UX, Engineering, and Data Science to identify the known and unknown factors of the new strategic direction, develop user personas, and define research objectives.

  • Facilitated 12 Client Interviews
Conducted in-depth sessions with supply chain professionals, building trust quickly and capturing candid insights about challenges in opportunity identification, validation, prioritization, and action.

  • Synthesized Complex Stakeholder Perspectives
Analyzed raw interview data into clear thematic insights, identifying where strategic ambition was undermined by fragmented systems, retrospective reporting, and misaligned execution pathways.

  • Framed Opportunities for R&D
Translated qualitative findings into actionable opportunity areas that could guide the R&D pipeline—such as predictive forecasting, orchestration capabilities, and trustworthy AI adoption frameworks.

  • Delivered Executive-Ready Artifacts
Produced a concise findings report and visual frameworks that connected stakeholder needs to product direction, equipping leadership with both clarity and confidence in prioritization decisions.

Outcome

The research resulted in a user-validated future strategic direction for Supply Analytics.

  1. Elevated Product Vision – Insights informed the evolution of Supply Analytics from a report-driven application into a workflow-integrated price and sourcing insights platform that more effectively supports opportunity identification, validation, prioritization, and action.

  2. Prioritized Product Roadmap – Findings helped leadership prioritize high-value functionality that could be embedded into the current product as well as additional features to expand the platform’s capabilities.

  3. Executive Alignment – Delivered a clear narrative and visual frameworks that built consensus across internal stakeholders and resonated with C-suite leaders, accelerating buy-in for the solution roadmap.

  4. Organizational Confidence – Equipped the Supply Anayltics team with evidence-based insights to make strategic decisions faster and with greater conviction.

Together, these findings translated into actionable opportunities to evolve a core technology platform to meet a growing client demand.
