My Beloved
I prepared myself for my Beloved.
I bathed for 6 days in potions
That turned my skin to silk
And my hair to feather.
I shaved the excess and cut away
the unruly. I uncovered my eyes
unplugged my ears
All for my Beloved.
I quieted my mind for my Beloved.
walked for miles in silence
listening to the call of crows
calling out to their Beloved.
I sat beneath an evergreen
stared at bold stars
that only reminded me of my Beloved.
I filled notebooks with words to say
To my Beloved.
The vastness of space, the depths of the ocean
were all to be filled by my Beloved.
Then came my Beloved
Melody and mystery swirled about her
Tranquility radiated from her gaze
She was unmoved
by my spirit.
I was to be expected
By my Beloved
So now I learn to live without
My Beloved
I am well accustomed to longing
Suffering can be swallowed
When thought of as sacrifice
But not without hope.
I am free
Without needing to please
My Beloved.
